Common Requirements of HAZMAT Driver Jobs
If you’re a hard-working, self-motivated individual with a positive attitude, this may be a good job for you. Generally, you’ll need to possess a Class A or B CDL with Hazmat & Tanker or X endorsement to qualify. As far as driving experience goes, you’ll probably need about 1-2 years of commercial driving experience and be able to pass a background screening.
Fact: Some companies will hire a driver with their CDL-A and then allow them to earn their HAZMAT and Tanker Endorsements.
Often a HAZMAT driver job will entail travel so you’ll need to be willing to travel or occasionally travel. A flexible schedule that will enable you to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or different shifts on short notice is a big plus.
